In instances where you want to temporarily remove a button (or tab) from your website's menu bar, you can easily unpublish the button. This will keep the button and companion article(s) intact.


1.) On the public side of the website, identify the button you wish to unpublish. In this example, the "events" button is to be unpublished.


2.) Log into the Joomla control panel using your admin sign-in.


3.) Select the appropriate menu where the button resides by clicking Menus > Main Menu.


In most cases, the "Main Menu" is where the button is located. However, there are other menus where menu buttons and tabs are placed; check with your webmaster if unsure.




4.) Within the list of all menu items, locate the menu item (or button) that you wish to unpublish.



5.) Click the green check button. (A tooltip will also appear to confirm what this button will do.)


6.) The menu item and its child items are now unpublished.



7.) Return to the public side of your website and refresh the web page.  The menu item (button or tab) is no longer available.


8.) Done.
