In this example, the "raw" native image to be optimized is 5,333x3000 pixels tall and wide. This is too big for effective use on a web page. We will crop and resize this image to 300px wide to be a more useful width.
The height is not as important and will be be adjusted automatically. Check with your web developer for the best image size for your web site.
1.) Point your web browser to Pixlr.com
2.) Select the "Express" version of the web-app
3.) Select "Browse" to open the image stored on your local computer into Pixlr
4.) Click on "Adjustment" in the lower left corner to open the tool bar.
5.) Pick "Crop"
6.) Drag the blue bounding corners to adjust what part of the image will be used. In this example, we removed a lot of the aqua background and focused on the central figures.
7.) Click "Apply" the crop the image.
Notice the new size is 2,967x1808 pixels... still too big for a a web page; that will be handled next.8.) After being cropped, click on "Resize"
9.) For this example, the width of the picture is changed to 300.
Notice the height will be adjusted automatically to 183pixels, in this example.
10.) Click "Apply"
11.) The image has now been cropped and properly resized. You may need to resize the work area on your screen to view the image at full size. Go to the upper right corner and set the magnification to 100%
So your desktop looks like this...
12.) Click "Save" in the upper left corner.
13.) Revise the name of the image if desired.
The quality may be kept at "85%", or you may adjust this if desired. Notice that at quality of 85% the resulting file size will be 16kb. If you need a smaller file, try adjusting the slider to adjust the file size.
Click "Save"
14.) A prompt will appear and you will be able to save the image to your local computer.
15.) Done.
